“My name is Kathy Tran. I used to be a reporting analyst and project coordinator, now I’m a Technical Project Manager.”
After leaving her job as a Reporting Analyst, Kathy Tran spent some time at home with her kids while exploring technical career options. After some thought, she chose to pursue her interest in software engineering and began searching online for bootcamps. She came across Kenzie Academy on Course Report and was excited by the idea of learning something new and getting out of her comfort zone in the Software Engineering program.
Kathy found great fulfillment in learning the ins and outs of coding. She especially enjoyed completing team projects and earning good grades on them.
“I’ve gained a lot of knowledge in full-stack development and I’m still learning to this day,” Kathy said. “Also, I’ve learned to work and collaborate in an Agile Scrum framework setting within a team.”
Now, Kathy is taking the skills she gained at Kenzie into her new role as a Technical Project Manager for AgilityIO.
Her responsibilities will include assisting the sales and engineering teams to understand client needs and proposing technical solutions or alternatives when applicable. She’ll also review and perform due diligence on project assumptions and estimations from internal development and design teams while also helping maintain client relationships.
When she’s not at work, Kathy enjoys doing the simple things in life, learning, trying new things, and traveling. Kathy shared a few words of encouragement with those interested in getting into tech but who may feel intimidated to start.
“Like Audrey Hepburn said, ‘Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible!’ If you remind yourself of this saying then you can overcome any obstacles,” Kathy said. “Oftentimes, we’re afraid to try something new because of the unknown, but if you can just keep telling yourself that there’s no turning back, it’s now or never, then I truly believe you can overcome anything.”
