From Brewer to Software Engineer

From Brewer to Software Engineer

relevant developments“My name is Kevin. I used to be a Head Brewer in the beer brewing industry. Now I’m a Software Engineer at Relevant Developments.”

Kevin Clark was working as the Head Brewer and Production Manager for a brewery when he decided to explore his interest in the field of technology. So, he got plugged into Career Karma and came across Kenzie’s Software Engineering program.

“I chose Kenzie because of the exhaustive program they offered,” Kevin said. “I didn’t like the idea of a quick three-month program like most bootcamps. I wanted more in-depth study. Kenzie offered that.”

Kevin thrived in the Software Engineering program. He especially took to the hands-on, “learn by doing” style of the curriculum.

“The project-based program was perfect for me,” Kevin said. “I learn by getting into things and building. Kenzie, from the very start, threw entertaining and challenging projects at me. The instructors and facilitators were not only there to guide me, but more importantly, helped me find ways to track down solutions on my own.”

In addition to the project-based curriculum, Kevin enjoyed working alongside his classmates and the collaborative atmosphere Kenzie provided.

“My favorite moments at Kenzie are late-night moments, finishing projects with my teams and that feeling of success after hard work,” Kevin said. “Nothing better. [These are] friends and team members I’ll have for a very long time.”

Now, Kevin is taking on his first tech role as a Junior Developer for Relevant Developments, an app development and e-commerce company. Kevin will work closely with the Relevant Developments team as they innovate and develop new software.

“I feel prepared for this role because of the exposure I received at Kenzie,” Kevin said. “I’ve been given the tools to learn anything in the tech world.”

Kevin is leaving a few words of wisdom to anyone considering starting their tech careers at Kenzie:

“Take good notes and use time in the car to walk through projects in your head. Quiz yourself with everything. That helps it stick a little better. Oh, and go to Kenzie!”
